This CD-ROM is based upon the book "The Way Things Work", which was the winner of the 1989 "The Times Educational Supplement" Award, the Science Book Award and the Copus Science Prize. Through more than 1,000 illustrations, 300 animations and many sounds and sound effects, the child can see more than 150 inventions function - from telescopes to telephones, from lasers to lightbulbs - more than 200 inventions come alive at the click of a mouse. In the Inventor's Workshop, the Inventor describes the contents of the disk. After playing in the workshop, there are four pathways to follow: A-Z of Machines, Principles of Science, History of Machines and Inventors. Macaulay's wooly mammoth assists in explaining scientific principles.
