Nearly all industrial processes require objects to be moved, manipulated or subjected to force, whether by means of electrical equipment or via devices driven by air (pneumatics) or liquids (hydraulics). These three prime movers in industry (electricity, hydraulics and pneumatics) tend to be handled by different engineers ??? electrical or mechanical. Andrew Parr??'s straightforward and non-mathematical introduction to the basic operations of hydraulic and pneumatic systems crosses these boundaries and is useful to engineers and technicians of all disciplines. Significantly updated and expanded with the latest fluid power information and technology, with over 200 diagrams and end of chapter questions, the new edition is ideal for undergraduate students in fluid power, hydraulics and pneumatic courses and as a refresher for practicing engineers and technicians. ??Provides a complete and concise introduction to hydraulic and pneumatic systems, with over 200 easy-to-understand diagrams, clear explanations and valuable end-of-chapter questions ??Revised with the latest information and developments in the fluid power industry, complete with the latest industrial safety standards ??Ideal for undergraduate students in fluid power, hydraulics and pneumatics courses, and for practicing fluid power, industrial control, manufacturing, mechanical and electro-mechanical engineers and technicians as a basic reference

Excellent introduction to Hydraulics, December 3, 2000 Reviewer: therealrobg from Southampton, England Already having a degree in mechanical engineering, but no practical knowledge of hydraulics, I purchased this book to enable me to start designing using standard hydraulic components. Whilst a previous book I had acquired disappointingly focussed on pneumatics at the expense of hydraulics, this book was the other way around. Its coverage of hydraulics is excellent and should enable anyone with a technical background to begin designing hydraulic systems with confidence. My rating would have been higher had the coverage of pneumatics, jointly prominent in the book's title, been equally extensive.
