The facilities required have become increasingly important and complex. This authoritative and comprehensive guide to stadia design will be invaluable to those responsible for the provision of new stadia or refurbishment. Both authors have been involved in the design of stadia, arenas and grandstands for many years and this book reflects their wealth of experience and expertise.

This second edition will include a new chapter on the Environmental impact of stadia, which has become a significant issue in their design in recent years. Various aspects of environmental impact is discussed, including the re-use of water, the use of solar panels for power and photo-electric cells for control systems and the use of daylight to avoid natural (sic) lighting, the design of the stadia themselves to create ideal competition conditions on the pitch and to reduce the extent of mechanical and electrical services inside the building and mechanical environmental controls. It also looks at the use of materials and the type of materials that perhaps are not ideal for stadia use because of their impact on the environment. Another new issue which is discussed is the information technology of giant video screens and smart seats which now feature in most stadia designs.
