Sinopsis
The introduction and acceptance of high performance synthetic elastomers by industry requires a greater understanding of the intricacies of rubber technology by engineers and designers. Without this knowledge it is impossible for them to prepare product specifications that will meet their exacting requirements at a reasonable cost. This book explains the differences in terminology used by the rubber technologist and the engineer. The book also provides details of internationally accepted test methods used by the rubber industry for the selection and control of rubber oompounds. It goes on to discuss the limitations of these tests and the difficulties that can arise when attempting to predict actual performance from laboratory tests. The importance of simulated service testing is stressed and detailed industrial examples are given. The book also includes an eight language vocabulary with indexes in French, German and Italian, and a section on the use of SI units.
