As the century draws to a close, Europe's plans for a single currency are nearing fruition. This study details the road to European economic and monetary union, how it will work, who it will affect and what the implications are for the global financial community. This second edition is updated to include an expanded chapter on how Europe's plans are being viewed in the US and Asia, as well as a comparison between monetary union in the new Euro zone and the US. The chapter on pensions and equity trading is expanded, and will provide analysis of the shift in fund management focus from countries to industrial sectors. There is also a new chapter examining what is needed to make EMU work.
