Cellular manufacturing has been an area of intense interest over the 1980s- 1990s. This work brings together some of the more significant papers on this key element of effective manufacturing systems from Taylor and Francis's "International Journal of Production Research". The papers are divided into key themes: historical and group technology issues; cell formation methods and strategies; machine layout methods; and scheduling. Each section is prefaced with a specially written essay from the editors, which analyses and critiques each paper within it.
