"What is the sun?", a small boy asks his grandmother one bedtime - beginning a rhyming conversation about the earth, sea and sky. They talk about the moon, the tides, the wind, the rain and people too. The exchange takes place while the child is getting ready for bed, which is reflected in the book's layout with large double-spread illustrations of the subjects discussed and small vignettes of the child and his grandmother. Stephen Lambert has also illustrated "The Snow Maiden", "The Magpie and the Star" and "Fly by Night".
