The trouble nis, there's almost too much going on here. Cody Grey, defens ive nstandout for the Texas Outlaws, is nearing the end of his career nand ruini ng his body and psyche with painkillers in a desperate neffort to hang on to his playing days as well as to his lovely but nunfaithful wife, Jenny. Meanwhile, J enny's new lover, the ncold-blooded rogue CIA agent Striker, is selling nuclear- grade nplutonium to shadowy Middle East figures'and he's using Jenny as nhis wil ling accomplice. Her involvement with Striker eventually nleads to Cody being ac cused of murdering a mean-spirited IRS agent, nand to his being defended in a gr and courtroom drama by the nbrilliant Madison McCall. Green is a solid storytell er. His ndepiction of NFL football, Texas style, will remind readers of nPeter G ent's early novels; despite a penchant for telegraphing, he nmanages to tie his myriad plot threads into a neat bundle by nnovel's end.
