Covering all aspects of paediatrics and community child health, this book will appeal to clinical medicine students and postgraduate students preparing for the MRCP. Each chapter islavishly illustrated with clinical photographs and consistently organised. For each condition described there is coverage of symptoms, signs and diagnostic investigations. Principles of Management and more general child health issues such as prevention and Health Promotion, Accidents and Abuse are also covered.
The book is organised into 28 chapters. An opening introduction and chapter on epidemiology (UK and International) leads on to the section covering growth and development and then to the main section of the book dealing with immunology, infection, nutrition and disorders by each body system (Respiratory, Endocrine, Gastrointestinal etc).
All these chapters are lavishly illustrated with clinical photographs and consistently organised. For each condition described there is coverage of symptoms, signs and diagnostic investigations. Principles of management are also discussed.
The main clinical section is followed by chapters dealing with more generalised Child Health issues such as prevention and Health Promotion, Accidents, Abuse and International Paediatrics. The inclusion of these chapters reflects that paediatricians need to be aware not just about particular organ systems and processes, but also social and environmental influences, which havea major impact on the health and well being of children.
