Sinopsis

This series uses cartoon-style illustrations and humorous narrative text to make key topics in Science and Geography accessible and engaging. This approach encourages children to read about and understand complex ideas. The story follows what happens when a cliff is gradually eroded by the sea, wind, rain and ice. We find out how rocks from a cliff-face eventually become the grains of sand we find on the beach. This book also contains an experiment, useful websites and an index. Reviews for previous titles in the Science Works series: 'Making science accessible and fun for younger readers is no easy task, but the author/illustrator partnership of Bailey and Lilly makes a brilliant job of it...Bright appealing cartoon-style artwork and a continuous narrative text treat each topic in the form of a story...Highly recommended' Books for Keeps, 5 star review. 'Using a clear and engaging narrative format with well-conceived and lavishly produced illustrations, the Science Works series interweaves science knowledge into a story with humour and interest' Times Educational Supplement.

Acerca de los autores

Jacqui Bailey has spent a lot of her adult life working with children's books. She has been an editor and publisher of everything from picture books to encyclopedias, but mostly enjoys finding out amazing bits of information and then writing about them. She is an award-winning author with more than 20 children's information books to her name, including A Cartoon History of the Earth series. Jacqui lives in London - and thinks it is the best city in the world.

Matthew Lilly attended art college before starting at Nassington Press and moving to Walker Books, where he worked for 17 years. After his time with Walker, Matt teamed up with Jacqui Bailey, editor and author, and formed ‘Two’s Company’. In 2002 they were short-listed for both the Aventis Science Junior Prize and the Blue Peter Book of the Year Award for A Cartoon History of the Earth, published by A & C Black, and in 2011 for The Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize for What’s the Point of Being Green, published by Watts.

Over the last 20-odd years Matthew has designed and illustrated a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles for several publishers and organisations including Franklin Watts, Wayland, A & C Black, David & Charles, Mathew Price Limited, Smart Learning and the BBC. Matthew has also designed and illustrated marketing materials for a wide range of local businesses in Devon.
