Since it was first published in 1984, Graham Duke's abc Air Traffic Control has passed through eight editions and numerous reprints, making it one of the most successful Ian Allan books of all time. This new, and fully revised ninth edition again gives the reader a comprehensive account of contemporary air traffic control practice. Since the eighth edition was published in 2001, the partial and controversial privatisation of National Air Traffic Services Ltd (NATS) has taken place, bringing the subject of air safety and how it can be incorporated into an area of commercial imperative into the commercial arena. One of the most significant changes to have occurred in the four years since the publication of the last edition is the commissioning of the major new ATC centre at Swanwick, a project that had been much delayed.
