Railways Restored is the bible of the railway preservation movement. Listing each of the country's steam centres and preserved railways, the book provides a comprehensive listing of all locomotives displayed along with information on rolling stock, special events, addresses and much more. First published in 1980, Railways Restored has been produced annually since then, establishing a reputation amongst enthusiasts and regular visitors to the numerous preserved lines that is second to none. In the quarter of a century since the first edition of the book was published the number of sites featured and the number of locomotives preserved has continued to grow - and the 2005 edition records many exciting developments in the railway preservation movement that have occurred over the past 12 months, with new lines under development and further locomotives preserved or restored. As is now usual, the specification of Railways Restored has been enhanced by the inclusion of a 32pp timetable supplement incorporating information on the many preserved railways which operate public services - making the book all the more essential to all railway enthusiasts. For the 2005 edition, there are again a number of new entries, reflecting the continued vibrancy of the railway preservation industry throughout the British Isles. New lines and projects, such as the Weardale Railway and Preston Dock, feature for the first time, whilst elsewhere the number of preserved locomotives listed, particularly first-generation diesel locomotives, continues to grow dramatically and other, more established, lines progress with extensions. Biografía del autor
Alan Butcher lives in Ashford, Middlesex and is employed as the Book Production Manager at Ian Allan Publishing. He has been involved with the compilation of Railways Restored since it was first published. He is the author of a number of titles for the Ian Allan Publishing list, most recently On London & South Western Lines and Mid-Hants Railway in Colour.
