Sinopsis
In the dramatically beautiful setting of the North Yorkshire dales, there develops a wartime relationship between Land Girl Ruth Palmer and captured German flier, Holger Fichtmuller. This almost unthinkable affair transcends the prejudices of two nations locked in world combat and withstands the passage of time. Kept apart for more than two years, the couple correspond through the good offices of a sympathetic chaplain, Michael Bates. When, eventually Holger, is transferred to Yorkshire, fortune seems to favour the lovers, despite family opposition. However, as an Allied victory in Europe finally approaches, news of death camp atrocities brings a crisis of conscience to Holger. With all the odds stacked against them, can Ruth and Holger find happiness together?
