Excerpt from De Horatio, Veterum Latinorum Poetarum Judice: Disseruit Ad Doctoris Gradum Promovendus

This book delves into the provocative dispute between Horace and the antiquated poets, offering a profound exploration of the transformation of Latin literature during the reign of Augustus. It meticulously examines the interplay between the traditionalists, the proponents of modern precepts, and Horace himself, who emerged as a pivotal figure straddling both worlds. The author meticulously deconstructs Horace's motives for censuring his literary predecessors while simultaneously acknowledging their influence on his own groundbreaking style. Through a nuanced analysis of Horace's satires and epistles, the book uncovers his critique of the careless and vulgar tendencies prevalent in contemporary literature, advocating instead for a refined and polished approach. By shedding light on Horace's revolutionary literary philosophy, this book provides invaluable insights into the evolution of Latin poetry and offers a profound understanding of one of literature's most influential figures.
