Erasistratus, about 300 bc, was the first to make a dissection of the human body after death. In ancient times it was a violation of law to dissect a human body, and all investigations were carried on in secret. Some knowledge of Anatomy was Obtained by the dissection of monkeys and other animals whose organs were supposed to resemble those of man.
