Hardcover. Red cloth boards, marbled paper slipcase. Volume 1: [55] profuse bw illustrations. Volume 2: [49] over 30 bw sketch reproductions. One book is a facsimile of a Julian Ashton sketchbook, one of the earliest of the 6 in the National Gallery's collection. The other book contains an extensive essay on the artist with illustrations of his paintings and drawings. From the essay: in this sketchbook, Ashton is still learning his art, and his individual style is not yet fully developed. Yet already the strong sensitive lines show his concern with the essential skills of draughtsmanship. VG, slipcase shows limited wear to edges, a one-inch diameter tear. Pages clean and bright. One plate unstuck with loss of about 1/8 inch diameter. Nº de ref. del artículo: 128334
