The aim of this book is to provide an introduction to the skills needed for both design and implementation of usable interfaces to computer systems. The emphasis is on text-based interfaces in order to reflect their preponderance in current systems. There is a very limited number of introductory texts in this area and Man-Computer Interfaces differs from them in its concentration on the implementation of commonly accepted criteria for good design rather than the underlying psychological/ergonomic principles which underpin them.
