The phenomenon of power has long been a central issue in the study of organisations. Power is generally perceived as the means by which individuals seek to dominate and govern, and is often regarded as a hindrance in organisational dynamics. In this strikingly original book, Philippe Daudi argues that traditional theories of power rest upon rudimentary and arbitrary assumptions about its nature, and that these theories are inadequate to cope with crucial issues raised by the problem of power. By further scrutinising contemporary notions of power in society and in the organisational setting, Daudi develops a new thesis which sees power as an essential property inherent in the organisation, arising out of the interactions of individuals. This book makes a major contribution to one of the key issues in modern organisational theory.
