Author Mansour Ajami was born during World War II in Saghbine, a poverty-stricken Lebanese village that had remained virtually unchanged since the Middle Ages. His autobiography, The Book of Generations: A Reunion with Memory, traces his adaptation to the culture and thought of twenty-first-century America.

Mansour Ajami holds BA, MA, and PhD degrees in Arabic literature, Islamics, and Western philosophy from the American University of Beirut and Columbia University. He is a singer and composer of Arabic music, and a poet in both English and Arabic. He is currently an Arabist reviser/translator at the United Nations.
