Reseña del editor

The 39 Steps of Self-Division is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the theater and in literary criticism. Original and innovative, The 39 Steps of Self-Division presents a detailed structure of the Self-Division process, which depicts a protagonist torn within his soul between two opposing courses of action.

Author Sam Zebba brings years of teaching and analytical exploration to the formation of his 39-step 'flow chart' guiding a play's advance. In clear and easy to understand language, and with the use of instantly comprehensible tables, Zebba demonstrates the structure's undeniable function, and exposes the startling step-by-step uniformity in the following six famous, unrelated Self-Division plays.

• Sophocles' Qedipus
• Shakespeare's Hamlet and Othello
• Brecht's Galileo
• Pirandello's Henry IV
• Bates' & Lean's Summer Madness

The 39 Steps of Self-Division is a useful, inventive, and insightful aid to a better understanding of structure in some of dramatic literature's most highly regarded masterpieces.
