Sinopsis

A young American soldier enters the Army. What he finds in the Fulda Gap will shape the rest of his life—and pull him into the shadows of a very Cold War.

In 1968, a two-year enlistment seemed like an eternity.

Instead, it became an education most career soldiers spend years trying to earn.

Guided by the officers and senior NCOs of the 3rd Armored Division’s 1st/48th Infantry, one young draftee learns lessons in responsibility, courage, and leadership that will define the man he becomes. What begins as military service in Germany soon opens into something larger: CIA-conceived operations inside the Fulda Gap, rising global tension, and a front-row seat to the even more dangerous succeeding years of the Cold War.

RedEye Fulda Cold is a powerful coming-of-age military thriller filled with authentic Army life, patriotism, camaraderie, romance, hard-won humor, and high-stakes international intrigue.

"With a smooth, wry touch, Bill Fortin spins a page-turning Cold War tale capturing both the great bravery and the occasional comic moments – some intentional, some classic SNAFUs – of U.S. military intelligence saving the world from Russian invasion."–

Reseña del editor

Redeye Fulda Cold by Bill Fortin is a first in series of a “MASH-like’ war novels. Set in 1969 West Germany; this story begins with the deployment of the newly developed Redeye weapon system. This technology would become a very important part of American military history. Rick Fontain, the main character, is found just out of high school working for the Bell System. He is summoned by his friends and neighbors and is inducted into the US Army. A series of aptitude tests identifies him as having all the criteria of becoming a perfect citizen of the CIA. Fortin deftly combines fictional characters and people he served with in the United States Army. Redeye Fulda Cold takes the reader to conversations with these people and takes them to the very places once occupied by the 3rd Armor Division’s Military Community in the late 1960s. The chain of events unpack a series of carefully crafted CIA military operations; which thwart the Russian invasion of West Germany through the infamous Fulda Gap.
