The Prodigal, Derek Walcott's new collection, is a dazzling odyssey for the twenty-first century. Beginning on America's East Coast, the poem journeys restlessly through the European continent, exploring the inheritance of the Old World upon Walcott's native St Lucia, and sees the poet wondering about his own sense of abandonment, whether to leave a place is to lose it. The Prodigal is a compelling steer between exile and belonging, Europe and the New World, wanderlust and the inevitable pull of home.

The Prodigal" by Derek Walcott is a poetic journey that traverses the landscapes of America and Europe, delving into themes of exile, belonging, and the duality of the New and Old Worlds. Walcott, a Nobel Prize-winning poet, explores his own sense of identity and cultural inheritance, particularly focusing on the influences of the Old World on his Caribbean roots in St. Lucia. The work reflects on the inner conflict of whether leaving a place equates to losing it, capturing the tension between wanderlust and the pull of home? This collection is a compelling exploration of self-discovery, art, and memory, making it a profound read for poetry enthusiasts. ; 137 X 15 X 205 millimeters; 112 pages.
