Biografía del autor

Maria Walther, Ed.D., is a first-grade teacher in the Chicago area and an expert in early literacy. She is the author of four professional books, including Teaching Struggling Readers With Poetry and Literature is Back! As an adjunct professor in Judson University Masters in Literacy program, Maria shares her passion for teaching young literacy learners with other professionals. Recently, she helped create the ELA Common Core State Standards curriculum for the Indian Prairie School District. Maria P. Walther, a first-grade teacher in Aurora, IL, earned her doctorate at Northern Illinois University, where she received the Outstanding Research Award. She shares her ideas with teachers around the country as a popular literacy consultant. With Carol Fuhler, she co-authored Literature Is Back! Using the Best Books for Teaching Readers and Writers Across Genres (Scholastic, 2007). She and Carol also co-author a column in Book Links, a publication of the American Library Association. Maria was honored in Illinois as Reading Educator of the Year and earned the ICARE for Reading Award for fostering the love of reading in children.
