Students learn to master basic listening and influencing skills, how to conduct a full interview using only listening skills, and learn how to adapt Miscroskills and interviewing plans to meet the needs of multicultural clients. Each chapter includes multicultural commentaries and case studies to remind readers that different cultural groups think of the helping process in very different ways and that issues of gender, language, religion, physical disability, affectional orientation, and experience with life trauma (such as child abuse, rape, Vietnam) are factors that should be considered.
