French astronomer Jean Dufay (1896&;1967) computed the altitude of the earth's ozone layer and was named Honorary Director of the Lyon and Haute-Provence observatories.
Translator Owen Gingerich is a former Research Professor of Astronomy and the History of Science at Harvard University.
