The Russian-born, Paris-bred artist Erté (Romain de Tirtoff, 1892–1990) is recognized as one of the foremost fashion and theatrical designers of the 20th century. In 1968, when he produced his first lithographs, art lovers discovered that he had found another medium suited to his extraordinary talents.
