Sinopsis
Despite various studies on the development of crusading thought, the First Crusade itself has not been properly examined from this perspective. Drawing on a range of European chronicles and charter collections, this book discusses the launching of the First Crusade, the practical experience of the crusaders and the interpretations placed upon this experience by contemporary commentators. The author's other publications include "The Knights of St John in Jerusalem, c 1050-1310", "The Feudal Nobility and the Kingdom of Jerusalem, 1174-1277", "What were the Crusades?", "The Crusades: Idea and Reality, 1057-1277", and "The Crusades, A Short History".

Acerca del autor
Jonathan Riley-Smith was Emeritus Dixie Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Cambridge, UK. His many publications on the Crusades include What Were the Crusades? (2009), The Crusades, Christianity and Islam (2008) and The First Crusade and the Idea of Crusading (1986).
