Soon after, the queen of Alphonso VI. King of Castile and Leon, also a French lady, solicited and obtained a similar complaisance from her hus band. The preposed change, however, excited so much dissatisfaction on the part of the clergy, that it was at length submitted to the decision of a duel: two canons, in complete armour, appeared as the champions of their respective rituals, and victory declared in favour of the Musarabic knight*. The catholic party appealed from this.
