Regulated motor-carrier rates apparently have risen somewhat less than railroad rates. The upward trend in motor-carrier rates appears to have started somewhat earlier than did the increases in rail rates, as judged by a compilation of representative freight-rate increases for motor cowon carriers issued by the Department of Commerce,7 as shown by the accompanying summary.
