This issue of "Architectural Design" presents a compilation of essays and projects by leading practitioners in the field of tensile and related structures. As land prices increase and building budgets are cut, there is an ever-increasing need for buildings which can be moved from one site to another. This book provides examples of residential, leisure, business and industrial portable structures, which are being developed to overcome challenges which static structures cannot cope with. Developed from an International Symposium and exhibition held at the RIBA in May 1997, it features projects from Lorenzo Apicella, Richard Horden, Buro Happold and FTL architects. In addition to the stage sets created by Mark Fisher, known for his designs for U2, the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd.
