Sinopsis

The fifth international workshop on Ion Formation from Organic Solids (IFOS V) was held at Lovanger, Sweden, 18-21 June 1989. The meeting was organized by the Ion Physics division, Department of Radiation Sciences, University of Uppsala. The workshop was attended by 60 scientists from all over the world. The main theme of the IFOS meetings is the production, ionization, mass analysis and detection of organic ions, ie the basis for mass spectrometric techniques to study such objects. Out of these four subjects, the presentations and discussions have been centred on the ejection and ionization mechanisms. The use of fast particles as in plasma desorption mass spectroscopy, recent progress with laser desorption and electro-spray techniques are also discussed in this collection of papers.
