This new edition has been improved in three important areas: several large data sets have been included; much of the discussion appearing in the first three editions has been expanded, revised and further clarified; additional student exercises and been incorporated. The emphasis continues to be on an intuitive understanding of principles rather than an understanding based on mathematical sophistication. Since the publication of the first edition, the widespread use of micrcomputers has had a tremendous impact on the teaching of statistics, consequently this edition contains a greater emphasis on computer applications.
