Stressing basic engineering concepts and methods of analysis used in the design of structures subject to dynamic environmental loads, such as earthquake ground motions, ocean surface wave forces and severe storm wind pressures, this book approaches randomness or uncertainty in loads through probabilistic and statistical methods using simple engineering terms with a minimum amount of advanced mathematics. Among the topics discussed are several new areas of interest to engineers: random load modelling, time dependent random loads, continuous structural systems and nonlinear structures.
