Client/server is a term used for a specific configuration for database applications run on a desktop computer or workstation networked to a centralized database. The client/server model is like a master/slave relationship where the master - the central database- is responsible for keeping the data consistent for users, and the slave - the workstation - does most of the work. This guide discusses all aspects of building client/server systems in a way that enables the reader to understand all the factors necessary to successfully implement a system.
