With the advent of computers, mathematical programming methods, and artificial intelligence, the strategies and approaches for the design of chemical processes have been significantly improved. This text describes these design strategies. It provides easy-to-understand rules to enable students to carry out process designs, and also emphasizes the importance of assessing plant-wide controllability Accompanying the text is a multi-media CD-ROM which uses voice, video and animation to introduce students to steady-state simulators like ASPEN PLUS and HYSYS. It also contains the solutions to over 60 examples using one of these simulators.
