Two of the fastest growing areas of enterprise computing - Intranets and datawarehousing - are featured in this book. Intranets provide a fast, efficient, and low-cost way for users to access the data stored in a company's data warehouse. The book explains how to design data warehouses that should mwork well with Web browsers on an Intranet and how to link existing data warehouses to a company's Intranet. Included in the book are: architectural design of data warehouses optimized for Intranet success; development tools for connecting the data warehouse to the Web, including: CGI, JDBC, CORBA and ActiveX object messaging services; database query techniques for on-line access to the data warehouse; development of OLAP-based decision applications; GUI design with Web browser tools; security; scalability; and agent techniques. The author provides examples and case studies to illustrate the techniques.
