Ethernet is not a product, but a set of protocols, or rules, for connecting many computers on a network. The author of this study addresses both the technical and financial concerns of LAN planners and administrators who are working with existing Ethernet networks and want to upgrade, or who are planning to implement a new network. This revised edition features discussion of such topics as switching hubs, routers, and the role of the Ethernet in multimedia networks, with FDDI and ATM. Special attention is given to the new generation of fast Ethernet networks.

Biografía del autor
GILBERT HELD is Chief of Data Communications for a 4,000-station network for an agency of the federal government. He is also the author of more than ten successful computing books, including Internetworking LANs and WANs; Data Compression, Fourth Edition; Data Communications Networking Devices, Third Edition; and The Complete Modem Reference, Second Edition.
