TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) is a widely used network protocol. From a user's perspective, TCP/IP operates at two main levels: providing the common sets of rules (protocols) that enable computer-to-computer messages; and providing a set of applications (programs) that enable users to interact with remote processors. This introduction to TCP/IP guides the reader towards practical applications. Each chapter describes how to use a different application, such as riogin, telnet, rcp, rsh, tfp, ftp, email and network services. For those who want to know more, the second part of the book explains TCP/IP and its relation to the OSI model and networking.

Biografía del autor
MARTIN R. ARICK, PhD, is head of training and customer support for Kronos, a Massachusetts company that develops time and attendance software for UNIX platforms. His experience with UNIX covers more than ten years on a number of different UNIX platforms, supporting networked VMS and UNIX platforms that use TCP/IP. His prior books include UNIX C Shell Desk Reference and The TCP/IP Companion, both from Wiley.
