The Next Generation: Wireless Communications for Multimedia and Beyond
From both a technical and a practical point of view, there is much to examine, evaluate and understand in the new 3GPP LTE cellular technology before its projected deployment in 2010. This book, written by Agilent engineers in collaboration with Anite engineers and LTE expert Dr K. F. Tsang, offers valuable insight into the LTE air interface at the physical layer. Chapters also cover the upper layer signalling and system architecture evolution (SAE). Basic concepts such as MIMO and SC-FDMA, the new uplink modulation scheme, are introduced and explained, and the authors dig into the challenges of verifying the designs of the receivers, transmitters and protocols of LTE systems. The latest information on RF and signalling conformance testing is delivered by authors participating in the 3GPP standards committees.

Moray Rumney joined Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies in 1984, after completing a BSc in Electronics from Edinburgh s Heriot-Watt University. Since then, Moray has enjoyed a varied career, spanning manufacturing engineering, product development, applications engineering, and most recently technical marketing. His main focus has been the development and system design of base station emulators used in the development and testing of cellular phones. Moray joined ETSI in 1991 and 3GPP in 1999 where he was a significant contributor to the development of type approval tests for GSM and UMTS. He currently represents Agilent at RAN WG4, developing the air interface for HSPA+ and LTE. Moray has published many technical articles in the field of cellular communications and is a regular speaker and chairman at industry conferences. He is a member of IET and a chartered engineer.
