The theme of this volume is alicyclic chemistry, which is a very broad area embracing nature products such as terpenes, steroids and carotenoids and an array of synthetic compounds, including both medium size and large ring monocycles and polycycles. Much of this supplement deals with the chemistry of terpenoids, a subject which has received considerable interest following the discovery of many new structural types with wide-ranging biological activities.
