Sinopsis

Grid-Forming Converters: Principles, Control, and Applications in Modern Power Systems is a pioneering guidebook to this state-of-the-art technology and its potential in enabling more-electronics grids and deep renewable integration for the energy systems of the future. Beginning with a clear explanation of the challenges presented for the standard synchronous generator or grid-tied converters by fossil-fuel phase-out and renewable integration, this book goes on to explain the fundamental concepts of grid-forming converters. Having established a solid foundational understanding the reader will learn practical techniques for implementation including design, control, analysis, and optimization. Finally, readers tackle case studies and example applications from energy storage to electric vehicles. From several of the foremost experts and educators in energy systems and power electronics, Grid-Forming Converters is an essential tool for students, professors and engineers working to make renewable-based grids a reality.

Acerca de los autores

Jingyang Fang is currently a full Professor in the School of Control Science and Engineering at Shangdong University, China. Prof. Fang has been working on grid-tied converters for more than a decade: he was the first person to use group theory to investigate the symmetries of power electronics and his inventions include the lattice converter, fractal converter, several virtual inertia control schemes, and 3 novel trap filters. He has authored/ coauthored 40 IEEE Transaction papers, and a book, which received over 2,700 citations according to Google Scholar. He has 2 licensed patents, transferred to MR and Evercomm respectively. He led 6 projects as a Principal Investigator, with total research funding exceeding 1000,000 EURs. He has received the Humboldt Research Fellowship, two IEEE Prize Paper Awards, one Best Presenter Award, and the IEEE JESTPE Star Reviewer Award, and is among the World's Top 2% Highly Cited Scientists ranked by Stanford University.

Jia Liu is currently an Associate Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. His research interests include power electronics in power systems, microgrids and distributed generation, and auxiliary services from renewable energy generation. He has been working on grid-forming converters for the last decade. He has published 15 first-/corresponding-author papers in reputed journals, including 2 ESI highly-cited papers, and his works have been cited thousands of times. He has been the principle investigator of 3 national research projects in Japan and China, and more than 10 joint projects with Japanese and Chinese companies. He has been supported by Talent Plans of Xi’an Jiaotong University and Shaanxi Province. He is an IEEE Senior Member, and serves as the Vice Secretary of the International Exchange Committee of China Power Supply Society, Member of P2988 Working Group of IEEE Standards Association, and as a Committee Members of several IEEE TCs and Chinese Societies.

Heng Wu is currently an Assistant Professor in AAU Energy at Aalborg University, Denmark. From 2015 to 2017, he was an Electrical Engineer with NR Electric Co., Ltd, Nanjing, China. He is the Chair of IEEE Task Force on Frequency-domain Modeling and Dynamic Analysis of HVDC and FACTS, the subgroup leader of the Joint Cigre working group B4/C4.93, a member of the GB grid forming best practice expert group formed by national grid ESO, UK, a member of the technical committee (TC) of European Academy of Wind Energy (EAWE), a member of Cigre working group B4.85, and a Steering Committee Member of Cigre next generation network (NGN), Denmark. Dr. Wu has published around 20 IEEE Transaction papers with more than 2300 citations in total, including 3 ESI highly cited papers. He has been identified as one of the world’s top 2% of scientists by Stanford University since 2019.

Junru Chen is currently an Associate Professor at Xinjiang University, China. His research interests include power electronics control, modeling, stability, and application. He has been working on grid-forming converters for the past 10 years and won the best paper award for his work on the potential impact of the virtual synchronous generator on the power system. He has published 26 papers as the first or corresponding author in reputed journals. He is supported by the Chinese Outstanding Young Talent Project and has been the principal investigator of two national research projects in China and 10 joint industrial projects, all related to the development and control of grid-forming converters. He serves as a technical committee member of the International Conference on Renewable Energies and Smart Technologies. He is currently involved in the standard IEC SC 8A and leading two standards for the application of grid-forming converters in the Xinjiang local standard.

Prof. Blaabjerg has been a Professor of Power Electronics and Drives with AAU Energy at Aalborg University, Denmark since 1998. He has published over 600 journal papers and 22 books. He has received 38 IEEE Prize Paper Awards, the IEEE PELS Distinguished Service Award (2009), the EPE-PEMC Council Award (2010), the IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Award (2014), the Villum Kann Rasmussen Research Award (2014), the Global Energy Prize (2019) and the 2020 IEEE Edison Medal. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transaction on Power Electronics (2006-2012), and a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Power Electronics Society (2005-2007) and the IEEE Industry Applications Society (2010-2011, 2017-2018). He has served as President of the IEEE Power Electronics Society (2019-2020) and Vice-President of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences, and was named one of the 250 top-cited Engineering researchers in the world (Thomas Reuters, 2014-2021).
