It is a comprehensive textbook for the surgical student and trainee, guiding the reader through key core surgical topics which are encountered throughout an integrated medical curriculum as well as in subsequent clinical practice. Written and edited by a team of highly experienced teaching and operating surgeons, with contributions from twenty-eight clinicians who command knowledge and expertise across all surgical specialties. Although sharing the same format and style as Davidson's Principles and Practice of Medicine, this text is complete in itself, thus enabling the student to appreciate both the medical and surgical implications of diseases encountered in surgical wards. This Fourth Edition has been fully updated in both content and approach to avoid overburdening the student with large amounts of non-essential information. The contents have been considerably restructured to bring the book more into line with current surgical practice. Comprehensively illustrated with over 500 drawings and photographs. Summary boxes are included throughout the text to aid revision. Paediatric surgical issues are highlighted wherever relevant.

Acerca del autor
James Garden is the series editor to the Companion to Specialist Surgical Practice series of seven volumes for Saunders. He is the author of Colour Atlasof Surgical Diagnosis (Mosby) and is a contributor to the current Third Edition of Principles & Practice of Surgery.
Andrew Bradbury is also a contributor to Macleod's Clinical Examination 10E. Other writing interests as yet unknown.
John Forsythe is the author of the Transplantation volume in the Companion to Specialist Surgical Practice series.
