Reseña del editor

The book is intended for use by all physiotherapy students and by newly-qualified physios working in orthopaedics. The aim is to present a problem-solving approach to orthopaedics as required by students on the new degree programmes. There are a great number of orthopaedic problems to be addressed ranging from fractures through soft tissue injury to rheumatological disease. Often the management can be similar or may overlap ie each condition does not need to be considered as a totally separate unit. Therefore, the knowledge gained from dealing with one type of problem can be transferred to others. In many undergraduate courses in physiotherapy there is a general trend towards student centred, self-directed learning. With a growing number of students and less time available for staff to spend with them, this text would be an ideal adjunct to an orthopaedic module. This usually consists of lead lectures followed by the student being directed to areas of study which they carry out in their own time. This is then supported by tutorials, seminars and possibly written assesment. The book is designed to be used as a companion text for this type of study.
