The topics covered in this series are specifically chosen to help children to develop a sense of 'awe and wonder'. They are topics that children and teachers love and now meet perfectly the need of a more creative curriculum. Each topic is closely keyed into the requirements of different subjects in the national curriculum to provide a cross-curricular project. The books can also be used to provide additional activities to topics and modules already established in a school to generate extra interest. Activities are provided for children aged from 5 to 11 - enabling teachers to find activities at a level suitable for all their children - extending the more able and supporting the less able. This also means that the books are ideal for teachers who have to teach mixed aged classes and enables topics to be used throughout the whole key stage or school. Children of all ages enjoy finding out about the Olympics - what the ancient games were like, how they changed and what they are like today. This book shows how this natural enthusiasm for a topic can be used as a basis for developing history and PE, motivating children to explore and think independently using their knowledge and skills. Topics explored include: life in Ancient Greece; the Ancient games; from the old to the new; Olympic sports; and, opening and closing ceremonies.
