The authors have written a guide for all midwives working in, or contemplating working in the community, caring for pregnant women in their own homes or in local clinics. It is not intended to be a textbook, but is about the application of knowledge in the community setting. Midwives are already being asked to care for more and more women at home and this book is designed to help those who have not done this to any large extent before or those who may need to revise their skills of caring for women and helping them give birth safely and happily at home. Midwives currently working in the community may find some fresh ideas for their own practice and the book should be helpful to students, midwives working in teams, midwifery managers contemplating setting up teams of midwives and midwives contemplating independent practice. The book is dedicated to all midwives - who need to be strong for the sake of women.
