This book presents a detailed report of the State Engineer of Montana and the Carey Land Act Board, with a focus on Carey Land Act projects in the state during 1917-1918. The report begins with an account of the author's contributions to the state's military reconnaissance efforts during World War I, which were necessary to furnish military intelligence on the state of Montana. The author notes that such efforts, though born of necessity, would nevertheless prove valuable for future efforts in conservation and infrastructure development. The report then details the progress and status of 12 Carey Act projects, including approved and pending projects, as well as the associated stream measurements, water rights, and related expenditures. The report concludes with a summary of project acreages, sales, and other relevant statistics. This book provides a valuable historical record of the development of irrigation and land reclamation efforts in Montana during the early 20th century.
