In order to improve sporting performance, we are dependent on being able to analyse performance, however, it is not possible for the human observation systems to take in and read all the events in sports performance. Consequently, notation systems are used by the coach and sports scientist to gather objective data on the performance of athletes whether it be on tactics, technique, movement or work-rates within the competition. This book explores the principles behind the notation systems and extends these principles to computerised notation systems, explaining how to design them so that the user can get the required information . The sports covered in the methods and examples make it fully international in content and include: tennis, squash, field hockey, football (American, rugby league, rugby union, Australian rules, association) volley ball, basket ball, horse trials, softball, netball, boxing, karate, trampolining, wrestling, fencing, water polo, ice hockey, sailing and cricket.
