Giving up-to-date information on some 6,000 drugs, including all those drugs listed in the British and American Pharmacopoeia and the World Health Organization's List of International nonproprietary names , about half the entries are based on those in the Dictionary of organic compounds (revised for inclusion in Drugs ). The drugs range from folk remedies to pharmaceuticals just undergoing clinical trials. Much of the physical data used here has been extracted from patient literature. Literature up to June 1989 is covered and all of the data in the bibliographies is labeled to indicate its content. Over 15,000 references allow rapid access to additional data. Contains a structure index providing a reduced-scale reproduction of all structure diagrams contained in that text (useful in the field of drug design). In the "Type of Compound" index each drug is listed under its therapeutic use. These comprehensive computer-generated indexes allow rapid access to all the information in the entries, and are separately bound along with indices to name, molecular formula, and CAS Registry number. Every entry contains the following data where appropriate: nomenclature including an extensive list of trade names and synonyms; molecular formula ad weight, structure diagrams, stereoisomers and derivatives, physical description, melting, and/or boiling point, dissociation constant, optical rotation, density, refractive index, occurrence, therapeutic uses, and a bibliography.
