Thick, very heavy quarto (4to), published in 1971 by Alfred A. Knopf, with 586 pages, and with full-page black-&-white frontispiece photograph of Mr. O'Hara. NOTE: Ex-library book, please expect library markings and indicia. However, absent the library treatment, the book has no notable flaws, is clean and stain-free, square and straight, and though no longer tight in its binding (as you might expect from a thick, heavy book), the book nevertheless remains firmly bound, the hinges are sound and undamaged inside and out, and no pages are loose, missing or torn. There is no writing, underlining, highlighting, or other such markings in the book, all pages clean and stain-free. We have chosen to leave the dustjacket in its original library clear protective cover, but it can be easily removed. There is a small "V"-shaped chip missing from the top of the jacket spine, but aside from library markings, the jacket has no other notable flaws, and is not price-clipped ($17.50) (Dewey label at the bottom of the jacket spine, blacked out bar-code label at upper right rear corner, both of which could be removed with the right solvent and know-how). Obviously, this is far from a perfect copy, but it is a clean, complete, intact,and still sound and solid copy of a desirable book that is becoming increasingly scarce and more expensive. Brings together for the first time all of the poems that had so far been discovered - more than five hundred - which O'Hara wrote in his lifetime. This copy has the 1st issue jacket, by Larry Rivers, which was deemed unsuitable by members of O'Hara's family and was quickly replaced by a typographic design, and it has the 1st issue binding; subsequently, the covers were stamped blind. Early copies such as this one were sent to reviewers and comprised the first shipments on advance orders. Very Good indeed with just moderate signs of handling, a handful of leaves with tiny corner bumps, and the fore edge with a spot at the end matter, the jacket a little rubbed to the head edge, where the spine is bumped and shows on the reverse a faint patch of soiling, slightly faded around the spine, and with a couple of short, mild scratches to the lower panel, but nonetheless Very Good overall.
