It considers what the new patient needs to know to deal with the medical, social and emotional issues that arise from a diagnosis of cancer, and addresses the issues from the perspectives of both doctor and patient. It deals with the immediate questions that a cancer patient has, including: What is cancer? Will I lose my hair? How do I deal with my family? and explains remission and staging, among other terms. Reading and resource lists and a glossary of the most common tests that cancer patients undergo are also included.
